5. FDR & Unconditional Surrender

FDR quickly proved that talking “too big” can actually make a situation worse rather than better. In January of 1943, Roosevelt and Churchill met near Casablanca. During a press meeting, FDR called for the “unconditional surrender” of Germany. This took Churchill completely by surprise as he knew that this would end up costing more lives of the troops and he was right. This statement forced the Germans to begin fighting even more desperately!
