This tiny donkey has been hanging around so many dogs that he believes that he’s one too! He is always getting himself into crazy shenanigans and his owners find it hysterical. So how did they wind up with a pet donkey? You won’t believe it till you read it.
20. Tiny Tim
Tiny Tim the mini donkey might be small but he’s got a lot of heart! This adorable donkey is 70 lbs of ***** and he never lets his owners forget it. He currently lives in his owner’s farm near Peterborough, Ontario.
However, Tiny Tim is pretty different from other donkey’s and it’s not just the fact that he’s smaller. Tim is absolutely convinced that he’s a dog. So how did this happen?!
18. Canine Siblings
Tiny Tim happens to have two canine siblings that live inside of the house. For a majority of his youth, Tim spent time with the dogs. He spent so much time with them that he can’t tell the difference between him and them.
17. Doggy Behavior
“He takes on characteristics of dogs. He fetches a ball, licks plates as I load the dishwasher and sleeps on a dog bed,” owner Jody Topping told PEOPLE. This kind of behavior is totally out of the ordinary but so cute.
16. Early Days
When Tiny Tim was still just a small baby he spent most of his time indoors with the Topping family. They were raising him but they also got some help from their dogs. Tiny Tim would observe carefully as the dogs played with Jody and her husband, Ted.
15. Surprise Birth
Tiny Tim’s arrival into the family was a complete shock to everyone. This is because his birth was a surprise as the Toppings had no idea that two of their donkeys had bred. They just walked into the barn one morning and noticed the baby.
14. June 2017
They found Tiny Tim on the floor of the barn in June 2017. He was fragile and only weighed around 10 pounds. The Toppings knew that the donkey needed help or else he wouldn’t survive.
To make matters worse, Tiny Tim’s mother wanted nothing to do with him. “His mother rejected him, we tried to get them to bond but she was very violent with him and we had to intervene,” Jody said. So the Toppings made other arrangements.
12. Taking Him In
So the Toppings brought the little donkey into their home and began to care for him. They started by feeding him with a syringe every 20 minutes. Overtime, the feedings were less frequent and Tiny Tim began to get bigger and stronger.
11. First Four Months
“The first four months my husband carried him up to our room each night and he slept in a play pen in our room, as he was like a newborn baby and ate a couple times during the night. When he reached 50 pounds, he was too heavy to carry upstairs so now resides in the mud room.”
10. Still There
Now, the mud room is where the seven-month-old Tiny Tim stays. However, during the summer months, the mini donkey can be seen trotting around on the farm. There are tons of perks to Tiny Tim’s unusual upbringing as well!
Unlike many other donkeys, Tiny Tim is actually house-trained. In fact, one of his favorite things to do is cuddle up with his canine siblings. He also loves to engage in pillow fights and will actually pull off the couch cushions to make a fort.
8. Very Affectionate
“He is so small, about 70 pounds and 23 inches at the shoulders at 7 months old, but he has a huge personality and loves to make people laugh. He’s very affectionate and super smart,” Jody said. This is why so many people have become smitten by him.
7. Facebook Page
Since they are so in love with Tiny Tim, the family decided to create a Facebook page for him. The page instantly went viral. One of Tim’s videos got over 5 million video views in less than a week.
6. Tons of Questions
Fans of the page have had tons of questions for the Topping family. Everyone wants to know what it’s like to raise a miniature donkey and how they got one. So Jody has gotten around to answering some of the questions.
5. Unique Pet
Jody doesn’t know much about mini donkey’s in general but she does consider Tiny Tim to be “one of a kind.” However, she hopes that people will understand that caring for a pet is a lot of hard work. Especially a pet like Tiny Tim.
4. Huge Commitment
“Tiny has definitely changed our lives. We can’t travel like we had planned; it’s hard to get a sitter for a donkey,” Jody said. She also added that, “miniature donkeys are very sweet and loyal, but they are a lifetime commitment.”
3. Long Lives
She also warned individual by stating that taking care of a mini donkey is a long commitment as well. “They live much longer than dogs, and even horses. So, though they are cute, you have to think a long way down the road to provide for them.”
“They will give you companionship, love and they are very loyal. You just have to love and care for them.” The family is very grateful for their mini donkey blessing. They are even working on a new project!
1. Certified Animal
The Toppings are currently working on getting Tiny Tim certified as a therapy animal. They hope that he can bring happiness to many other people’s lives as well.
