When you’re fit, it takes less effort to look sharp. Your shoulders are broad, your sleeves stretch your t-shirts. Surprisingly enough, some people believe this philosophy a bit too much and wind up wearing clothes that are way too tight or show way too much muscle. It’s one thing to be confident (whether you are fit and/or look sharp), but overdoing it can really hurt the way you look and the vibe you give a room. We received a question from one of our faithful users about what the best clothing options are to show that you’re fit in a modest way. We tapped into an industry expert to see what he had to say on the topic. If you ever have a question, you can e-mail it to us, hit us up on Facebook, shoot us a tweet on Twitter, or even scream at the top of your lungs.

This week, we tapped into a close friend of conFITdent, Mike Simone from Men’s Fitness. You have probably seen some of Mike’s articles on MensFitness.com or even communicated with him through Men’s Fitness’ social pages. He is one of our favorite fitness writers out there because he is a fitness enthusiast and doesn’t have the same biased as some experts who seem to have been “bought out” by advertisers.

When I go out I see a lot of guys where tank-tops and shirts that make it clear they are trying really hard to show off their muscles. How can I look sharp and show off my body in clothes without looking  flashy? Kyle from New Jersey

Mike Simone on How to Look Sharp

Mike Simone: Kyle, this question is absolutely hysterical. I’m a Jerseyite too. Yes! Good stuff. All you need, my friend, is an awesome, plain t-shirt. Yes, just a t-shirt is the key to look sharp.  The most important thing to look for is to find the right cut. And I’m not talking about a super tight t-shirt, I’m referring to one that flows in all the right places. I recommend buying a t-shirt from several manufacturers and see which ones fit best around the neck, shoulders, biceps, triceps and mid-section. Maybe even hit up the local stores and try a bunch on in the changing room. As boring as it may sound, a t-shirt can still look sharp.  People will notice you look good and at the same time you won’t come off as though you’re screaming for attention. Make sure to stay away from the super busy, wild and crazy designs on T’s… It’s overboard. When the it’s cold, work the same strategy with a long sleeve henley. You can also rock a snugger-fitting long sleeve t-shirt under your regular t-shirt for the layered look.
