Cooking is something men often don’t want to do, but because men love to eat, it’s a necessity. Even though having a girl can make things easier in the kitchen, it’s still better to know how to cook on your own. This’ll give you the opportunity to impress your friends at barbecues, and to make your girl love you more during your dinner dates at your place.

Many guys think cooking will fill up their kitchen with pans and other cookware, so they often give up before even getting started. This can be prevented, though, by having a single piece of cookware that you can use for all types of cooking: a cast iron skillet.

A skillet is one of the most important cookwares that any man should have. It’s quite versatile; you should have this “power tool.”

Why Choose Skillets

If you can, or would prefer a single cookware in your kitchen, you should choose a skillet. You can fry, grill, boil, steam, and bake in this cookware. Also, because a cast iron skillet gets better as it ages, you’ll realize your dishes taste better as time goes by.

Below are some tips on how to season and use your skillet.

Seasoning

To season your skillet, you need grapeseed oil and an oven. Just moisten your cast iron skillet all over, including the outside, then throw it in the oven for 45 minutes to an hour. This will season your skillet to make it smoother and non-stick.

Make sure you use grapeseed oil only, so that there won’t be smoke filling up your kitchen when you heat up your pan. Also remember to turn the oven to 550 degrees.

Cleaning

When you clean your cast iron skillet, make sure you don’t use soap or any kind of dishwashing liquid. Just use kosher salt when cleaning your pan.

After you’re done using your skillet, dump off the excess oil or liquid, then pour some kosher salt on it. A tablespoon or two will do. Then, using a towel, scour the pan using the salt. Dump the salt out, and you’re done.

When cleaning your cast iron skillet, make sure you don’t use water to rinse it. The salt will do the trick of cleaning your pan while leaving a good amount of oil in it to make it non-stick. The leftover oil will also make your cooking more flavorful.
