Chris Pratt, best known for his role as a chubby yet lovable Andy Dwyer in Parks and Recreation, and more recently for his role in Zero Dark Thirty, will star as Peter Quill in the upcoming blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy.

Approximately seven months ago, Pratt posted a photo of himself to his Instagram account with the caption, “Six months no beer. Kinda douchey to post this but my brother made me.” Chiseled as the statue of David, with abs popping out and biceps bigger than most thighs, Pratt’s Instagram photo proved to the world just how serious he took his role in the upcoming Guardians of Galaxy.

So serious, in fact, that he refused to drink any beer for six months.

No Beer, Six Months

If you have yet to hear, alcohol of every kind is empty calories. Bottom line. If you’re trying to get in shape, then drinking booze will stall your progress.

Pratt knew this while training for his upcoming role, so he bit the bullet and ditched that carbonated goodness we like to call beer.  But this isn’t the only thing he did to get in shape.

Work Your Ass Off

Pratt also worked his ass off for six straight months, hardly taking a day of rest.

In fact, I implore you Confitdent readers to take one message out of this entire article: persevere. If something isn’t going your way either in gym or in life, then it’s critical to 1) do something about it, and 2) persevere. Did you know that Pratt had to lose over 70 pounds for his role in Guardians of the Galaxy? SEVENTY pounds!

And he did it in only six months, turning flabby fat into rock hard muscle. When asked about his seemingly overnight transformation, Pratt gave a few words of advice: “hey, if you just bust your ass and get after it all it takes is about 6 months really.”

He goes on to say,  “6 months flies by whether you’re working out every day or whether you’re not. So if you feel compelled to try to do something about it, take some action, get into shape,  then do it.”

Of course, losing the weight is always easier said than done, but don’t let that stop you. It sure as hell didn’t stop Pratt, and he’s only human.

Now, I understand the advice you’re getting from this article isn’t the typical Confitdent material. I’m not telling you to lift heavy weights, or run three times per week, or eat a diet of whole, unprocessed foods.

All I’m saying is to ditch the booze, and persevere through hard times. If you can just do that, you’ll make plenty of progress.
