Did He Have a Routine?

There is an official exercise routine that Joe Manganiello did to train his body. It is now known as the Joe Manganiello Workout and Diet routine, and was created by Ron Matthews, a physical fitness trainer who is famous for working with other Hollywood stars like Hugh Jackman.

What Was His Routine?

He used his specially made Official Joe Manganiello Workout and Diet routine three days a week and twice each day. In addition to his official exercise routine, Joe Manganiello also did his own weight training and cardio training for an additional three days a week, each also twice a day. The result of such a routine meant that he was working out six days a week, at a rate of about twelve separate workouts.

What Sort of Exercises Did He Do to Play the Role in True Blood?

To really gain the bulked up look that he needed for the role in True Blood, the official Joe Manganiello Workout and Diet exercise routine had to contain a very wide variety of exercises. For starters, his arms alone were worked out from every possible angle. Some of the exercises that helped with this included the True Blood actor using a wide range of arm curls, such as incline curls and decline curls. The variation helped in making sure that every part of his arm was properly exercised.

As Joe Manganiello did not want to end up with massively bulky arms, he had to keep a pointer in mind. Paying attention only to the middle of a muscle makes it bulk up, but can lead to an effect that not everyone wants. To combat this, the actor from True Blood made sure to focus on exercises that gave attention mostly to the ends of each muscle. Such a technique allows the muscles to bulk up while giving enough definition so as to properly define each muscle.

For his chest and stomach, the main exercises in the Joe Manganiello Workout and Diet regimen were supersets and drop sets. The supersets allowed the actor to train his chest while simultaneously working on nearby muscles. It helped lessen his overall workout time and helped him burn off the excess fat much quicker than normal.

On the other hand, the drop sets that the True Blood actor used to define his shoulders were continuously done. That is, Joe Manganiello would keep repeating the sets until he could no longer do it. A helpful tip he used was to start off with large weights, do as many as possible, and then change to lighter weights and continue until his arms were unable to do so.

The Official Joe Manganiello Workout and Diet routine also contained exercises for Joe Manganiello to cut back the fat on his abdomen and to define them. While many of his fans know that before True Blood the actor was already fit and had heavy muscles, he still lacked definition in his abdominal area. To help get said area into perfect shape, the True Blood actor alternated his general workout with hanging leg raises and other exercises that involved a lot of twisting, thereby helping him cut down excess fat from his stomach.

As for the extra cardio and weight trainings that he did, Joe Manganiello preferred to do his cardio training early in the morning and on an empty stomach. The weight training came in the evenings, where he did what many call a “split routine”. That is, he made sure to never work the same muscles continuously and that he never did the same routine twice.

What Was His Diet?

Because the body relies on food to act as its fuel source, the diet part of the Official Joe Manganiello Workout and Diet routine was the most important part of the entire exercise regimen. Joe Manganiello was already having an organic diet that was helping with his muscles; however, the introduction of his new and official routine meant that some changes had to be made. The most basic aspects of the True Blood actor’s diet during his Official Joe Manganiello Workout and Diet routine were:

Lots and Lots of Protein

Proteins are some of the most important building blocks of the body and are much harder to digest than the average carbohydrate. Not only do they help the body in certain functions, but they are also responsible for the building and repairing of muscles. As such, it can be expected that the Joe Manganiello Workout and Diet required him to consume a lot of proteins in order to really make strong and well defined muscles. Some of the more common sources of protein that he had include egg whites, protein shakes and salmon.

Very Little Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are what keep the body well fueled. However, the Official Joe Manganiello Workout and Diet routine held very little carbohydrate sources. As a matter of fact, basically the only carbohydrate that Joe Manganiello was allowed to eat was oatmeal; he was not allowed near bread or sugar.

A Few Fruits and Vegetables

Although the Official Joe Manganiello Workout and Diet routine was largely protein based, the True Blood actor was still required to eat certain types of fruits and vegetables. While he could only have small amounts, the ones that he did have to consume were fibrous and provided him with much needed vitamins and minerals.

As was standard with many Hollywood trainer given diets, the meals he was given were small. Joe Manganiello was also required to eat the standard five times a day, with only a few hours between each meal. It has also been said that all of the ingredients in Joe Manganiello’s diet were purely organic, a fact that is partially due to the actor being brought up on organic produce.
