What is parkour? It’s essentially moving from one place to another in the quickest and most efficient way possible, which usually means getting through, over, and under obstacles. For some, it’s a funny and crazy thing that guys are doing on the streets, but for those who were trained, it’s very useful, especially in emergencies.

Things You Need to Train For Parkour

When you want to train for parkour, there are things you need to do. Trained pros on this sport say it best when they say that, “martial art is the art of flight and this sport is the art of flight.” In theory, any healthy person can do it, but here are the steps and basics you need to consider that will help you avoid possible injuries.

Warm Up

Joint rotation, jogging, and QM are just some of the warm-ups that you can do if you want to train for this sport. Warm-ups before starting to train in any sport is always recommended to avoid muscle fatigue and stress. This helps warm up your body to get it going and provides initial focus on the sport. It’s also defined as a discipline, so you need to be fit before you even train for parkour.

The Vault

On your first obstacle, hold the rail tightly and jump through. After passing the obstacle, it’s imperative to keep your chest forward and move on.

 Crawling and Rolling

When you master the vault, it’s time for your next step. In rolling, balance your shoulder and your hip. Rolling is needed when landing in high jumps. If you cannot master rolling, jumping from high places will be really painful. Crawling is also needed to get under low obstacles. It’s very tricky to get through little and low spaces.

Parkour Wall Climbs

This is also very interesting. You can “climb up” walls if you like. Here’s the trick: put your foot a little higher than your hip. Jump off to a cat position (feet at waist level, putting pressure into the wall and taking pressure off your arms). Afterwards, make a powerful pull into the support position, with feet up on the wall. Lastly, tip off the wall.

Swing Through

This is also helpful when you meet high obstacles that there’s no other way than to swing through it.

Practice Is The Key

Put everything together and practice regularly. It’s needed to keep up with the sport and be familiar with parkour obstacles. When you’ve already learned the basics, live with them and discover in yourself the techniques that work best with you and your body.

Doing this sport is really crazy but really manly, and needs a lot of skills and grace to do every step. It is indeed very useful. Just make sure your body is ready and be safe. You can also do this as your workout and as a means to have fun.
