Olm salamander is the only exclusively cave-dwelling chordate species in Europe. It’s also entirely aquatic, sleeping, eating and breeding underwater. It’s extremely vulnerable to environmental changes, especially the chemical structure of the water due to industrial waste, and is currently on the European list of rare and endangered species.
