Many parents can relate to the agony of watching a child suffer from stage fright. The worst part about it is knowing there is nothing you can do to help in the moment. But for a dad from Bermuda, that wasn’t quite true. His daughter was at dress rehearsal, so he decided to hop up on stage and practice her ballet routine alongside her.
12. A Good Dad
Marc Daniels did not expect to be a viral sensation, but the father of three got attention when he jumped on stage during his daughter’s ballet recital. Daniel is from Hamilton City Hall, Bermuda. He was at the school for the May 29 dress rehearsal for an upcoming concert.
11. A Crisis
“I was holding my youngest daughter, Suri, while my wife was downstairs helping backstage. Suddenly, Che Barker came running up and said my daughter, Isabella, was having a little breakdown. She was crying and calling for Daddy. I went downstairs to see her, but they were just about to go on stage so there was not a lot of time to comfort her.”
10. Stage Fright
Daniels daughter was up on stage. Suddenly she starts to cry. Daniels knew he could help her relax so he ran up on stage while holding his younger daughter. Daniels is a barrister by trade but you wouldn’t know it by the moves he broke out on stage.
9. Bella and Suri
Bella is his two-year old who is just starting ballet. Suri is his youngest daughter. He balances Suri while he uses his feet to mimic her poses. “Bella was very emotional and needed hugs from her daddy. Despite having a tantrum, I can tell she wanted to stay on stage and I didn’t want to discourage her before the big performance by making her be the only one to come off.”
8. Learning Confidence
He didn’t think anything of giving his little girl confidence. He knew it had to be done. “I walked on holding Suri and stood next to her, trying to help build her confidence – I told her I loved her and that she’s an amazing dancer.”
7. May I Have This Dance?
Daniels asked if Bella waned to dance. Since she nodded yes, he joined in. “I’ve practiced with them at home on many occasions so it wasn’t unfamiliar to me,” he said. His daughter wasn’t the only one who noticed his slick moves.
6. Co-Workers Have a Laugh
His co-workers also recognized Daniels. “Jurors, police officers and members of the prosecution have even been giving me twirls and plies as a token of appreciation for the video. Even in court the other day, one of the magistrates made a comment about my moves that prompted the court to erupt into laughter.”
5. Novice Dancer
Daniels did not dance before he had kids, but things changed. “Before having the girls I don’t think I’d ever attempted any ballet moves before, but now everyone in Bermuda knows me for my toe-pointing.”
4. Looking Good
Everyone loved the story and especially loved the video. One commenter said, “How cool does that family look?” They liked a heartwarming story about a dad who was involved in his kids’ lives.”
3. Best Friends
Another person stated: “How lovely. Made me cry seeing him dance with her. He will be her best friend forever.” This is definitely true!
2. In Motion
Bella learns to dance at the In Motion School of Dance. “Maybe it’s never too late to become a ballerina!” he said. The school started with 40 students and has grown into a premier dance location, with four studios, a store and air conditioning.
1. Criminal Lawyer
The moment is a far cry from Daniels’ day job as a head of litigation for Marc Geoffrey Barristers & Attorneys Ltd. He is a criminal lawyer who has fought to cut defense costs for regular people in Bermuda. He got his law degree at College of Law in London. He obtained his B.A. in Western Ontario and also was a senator in the Progressive Labour Party in Bermuda.
