If you’re looking for a diet that won’t make you compromise between eating and losing weight, or if it seems like you’ve tried everything and nothing is helping you lose those extra pounds, then the SHRED diet may be for you. Designed by physician and TV personality Dr. Ian Smith, the SHRED diet, also known as “The Revolutionary Diet,” aims to be the final push in your weight loss experience that helps you get past those frustrating plateaus where nothing seems to be working. On top of that, what makes this diet so revolutionary is that you’ll be eating – constantly; four or more meals a day with at least three snacks in-between those meals for six weeks.

The SHRED diet operates around two main principles: Timing and diet confusion. Diet confusion is a concept developed by Dr. Smith and is the idea of being inconsistent with your food intake to keep your metabolism working hard. Think about how workouts are comprised of different exercises. The variation in the program is what produces results.

Timing is important in this diet because the schedule works with your body to avoid erratic increases or decreases in hormone levels which can cause weight gain. Meals should be 3 to 4 hours apart and the snacks should be consumed about 1 ½ hours after the preceding meal. Dr. Smith stresses that it is key to stick to the schedule. Any slips that occur (such as skipping a meal or eating something that is not from the approved menu) mean that you have to go back and start that day over, or else you won’t achieve the results that you may be looking for. If you’re not hungry, you don’t have to eat all of a meal, but you do have to eat something during that allotted time to keep with the schedule. You should never go more than four hours without eating something.

While the SHRED diet revolves around specific recipes, you can still have most of the foods you already enjoy, just at a lower quantity. You are also encouraged to stay away from foods and beverages that contain added sugar and focus on healthier options like multi-grain wheat. SHRED: The Revolutionary Diet is the guidebook for the original diet. You can take your SHRED experience to the next level with Dr. Ian Smith’s 2013 book Super SHRED which contains extremely detailed daily schedules including recipes for the suggested meals for a four-week prequel to the original SHRED diet.

The SHRED diet has been massively successful with dieters losing, on average, 20 pounds, 4 inches or 2 sizes within the six-week program. It’s also been featured on shows like Rachel Ray and Good Morning America. You can join the “Shredder Nation” on Twitter and Facebook and see what the Revolutionary Diet can do for you!
