Whether it’s as a hotdog vendor in X-Men, or as beauty pageant judge in Iron Man 3, Stan Lee is looked out for by every superhero-movie enthusiast. It’s become some kind of game, trying to spot his cameo roles which are as inventive as Lee’s fertile mind. So, when Lee announced that there would be none of his usual smile-eliciting cameos in Guardians of the Galaxy, it was a bit of a damper for his followers.

It’s a pleasant surprise, then, when Jared Larson writes in an IGN article that Lee will be spotted in a different interesting role in Guardians of the Galaxy. Earlier in January, Lee said that he wouldn’t take a role in the flick because he didn’t write or create the group. He added that he wasn’t even sure if he knew all the characters, and that he was simply excited to see the Marvel sci-fi movie.

Lee revealed later, at the C2E2 expo in Chicago, that he would indeed be making a minor appearance. He’s only said that he’s cast with a very pretty girl, but that he didn’t quite understand the context of the scene. Everyone is obviously curious about it now, but Lee keeps mum about anything that has to do with his much-anticipated role.

Unlike the other blockbuster Marvel superhero characters, the Guardians are not directly created or co-created by Lee. The creation of the Guardian Groot, however, is attributed to him, Jack Kirby, and Dick Ayers. The character is motion-captured and voiced by Vin Diesel.

What role could it be? Keep guessing!
