Woman Who Had Six Miscarriages Finally Becomes Mom With The Help Of Best Friend

Choosing to finally have a child is a huge and impactful decision. For many soon-to-be moms, it’s an amazing time where they can carry their child and feel it growing. However, not everyone has the ability to carry a child and this can be pretty traumatic. One woman suffered through six miscarriages before she finally came to the realization that she would never be able to carry her own child. So she decided to ask her best friend if she would help. You’ll be blown away by this heartwarming story of friendship…

20. Starting A Family

Erin Boelhower, 33, from Woodstock, Illinois, was so excited to start a family with her husband, Matt. The two of them decided to start trying after getting married back in 2012. However, things wouldn’t be so easy for them…

19. Pap Smear

Although the couple was intent on starting a family, obstacles would soon begin to stand in their way. It all started when Erin went in for a routine pap smear. The pap smear came back with some pretty scary results…

18. Abnormal Cells

Erin soon found out that she had an abnormal cervical cancer screen result. Due to this, she would need a LEEP (loop electrosurgical excision procedure) to remove the cells. After the procedure the doctors advised her to wait a year before trying to get pregnant.

17. More Problems

So Erin waited, however, she wasn’t able to get pregnant. She would do ovulation tests, she would track her cycle, and she would also record her basal body temperature. That’s when she decided to have an ultrasound done and they quickly discovered ‘two gold ball sized’ cysts on her left ovary.

16. Getting Surgery

I opted to have the surgery. Upon surgery, it was discovered that what looked like giant cysts on the ultrasound machine was actually my left Fallopian tube,” Erin explained. “At some point, it had become infected, died, and needed to be removed. At this time, I was also diagnosed with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and hypothyroidism.”

15. Stimulating Ovulation

After the surgery, Erin began to take Clomid, a drug to help stimulate ovulation. “I was starting to get very frustrated and discouraged because so many of my family and friends were having kids and starting their families. And so many of them had used Clomid with success so I thought we would be no different,” Erin said.

14. Growing Frustrated

It was beginning to become very stressful and emotional. Never did I ever think infertility would affect me…and this was literally, only the beginning,” she explained. The couple eventually met up with a fertility specialist. The fertility specialist suggested that the couple try IUI (intrauterine insemination), which injects the sperm into the woman with a ‘turkey baster’ looking instrument.

13. Failed Attempts

After IUI failed on three separate occasions, the couple decided to go down a different route. The couple decided to start IVF and it was a degrading experience for Erin. “It was almost like I became a human pin cushion overnight,” Erin said of the treatment. “My stomach was covered in bruises and the side effects of the drugs had my emotions going haywire.”

12. Bittersweet

Eventually, the couple got a call that would change their lives forever! “I got the call that day that would forever change my life. We were pregnant, finally. I had a life growing inside of me and it was pure magic,” she said. However, the good news unfortunately wouldn’t last long. At six and a half weeks pregnant on her 30th birthday, Erin and her husband Matt were told there was no heartbeat.

11. Trying & Trying

For the next few years, the couple would continue to try and try and try to get pregnant using IVF methods. They did a total of five egg retrievals and nine IVF transfers with 15 embryos. In the process Eric also suffered through six different miscarriages. It was emotionally traumatic…

10. Exhausted

With each new cycle, new hope was found only to be followed by fear, devastation, and heartbreak. We saw different doctors, tried different protocols, anything for us to reach our dream of becoming parents. We became the living definition of insanity – doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. And it was exhausting,” Erin explained.

9. Other Options

After their fifth miscarriage, the couple was both emotionally and physically exhausted. The entire process was taking a huge toll on their happiness and the situation was painful for them and their family and friends. That’s when they began to explore an option that they had never considered before.

8. Surrogacy

Eventually, the couple knew that undergoing these treatments weren’t going to result in a pregnancy. That’s when Erin’s best friend, Rachel Checolinski, offered to be their gestational surrogate. The couple knew they couldn’t turn down this opportunity.

7. Tough Decision

As badly as I wanted to carry my child, I couldn’t continue to pump my body full of hormones and lose our babies. For the past five years, we were living on an emotional roller coaster and it was time to get off and move on. At one point during our journey, my husband said to me, ‘Being a mom is more important than being pregnant.’ And he was so right.”

6. Transferred

On January 12, 2018 we transferred two embryos into Rachel. Tears streamed down my face and I was overcome with emotion when the embryologist brought the embryos out for transfer – those were our babies!” Erin wrote. Then the couple got the most fantastic news on January 21st!

6. Pregnant

On January 21st the couple was informed that Rachel was pregnant! We had our first ultrasound at six and a half weeks. My RE, nurse, Rachel, Matt and I all piled into the ultrasound room. I put my head down, my hands over my mouth and was crying and shaking from so many nerves.”

5. Gender Reveal

As the weeks passed by, their baby began to grow more and more. The couple was so excited and thrilled that they wanted to take a sneak peak at the gender! Erin explained that she had been researching gender reveal ideas for years and she wanted to get started on planning hers. When the couple finally found out they planned the most amazing reveal!

4. The Reveal

With each pregnancy, new ideas would come to mind, but sadly, we would never make it that far. My husband had an idea to shoot something and make it explode with color to reveal the gender, so we made it happen! We are having a girl!” Erin wrote.

3. Second Trimester

Rachel is due to have the baby in September, and is in her second trimester. The couple is beyond excited to meet their beautiful baby girl! After so many long and arduous years, Erin and Matt will finally have a child of their own.

2. Well-Worth It

Our baby shower is in the next month and I never in my wildest dreams thought I would get to enjoy this moment and have our baby celebrated. Each day that passes brings us closer and closer to her arrival and her being in our arms. She will be worth all the years of pain, every tear we shed, and every single penny we have spent.

1. Feeling Blessed

We are incredibly blessed and grateful to have Rachel in our life and for her giving us this priceless gift – our daughter. She is selfless, noble, and unbelievably generous. We wouldn’t be here today with her, our family and friends, and our supporters that have stayed by our side throughout the years. We are forever indebted to all of them.”
