It is very frustrating if you see your fresh fruits and vegetables rot in a matter of days. You spend money to get healthy, but then you do not get to enjoy these fruits and vegetables. Here are some tips on how to store produce and keep them fresh and last longer in your house:

Bananas

This fruit is very rich in potassium to keep your muscles from cramping. If you are physically active and you sweat a lot from your workouts, this fruit will restore the lost electrolytes and make you feel full. Store banana by keeping them away from other fruits. In fact, this is one of the most effective ways to store fruit. This is because bananas release gas all throughout the day and it will make the other fruits rot easily.

Apples, Pears, Peaches

Store these fruits upside down to prevent sugar from rotting the bottom of the fruit easily. It is best that you store them in a cool place to last longer. If you bought a carton of these fruits, you can store them in the cardboard inside the refrigerator.

Tomatoes

Store tomatoes upside down to slow down the ripening process. As you can see now, storing them upside down is a popular way to store fruit. They will be firm for a longer period of time. But if you have some soft tomatoes, you can rehydrate them by soaking them in water with ice and a pinch of salt. In no time, the tomatoes will get firmer again. It is also advisable not to refrigerate them, and depending on the ripeness of the fruit when you bought them, it can stay at room temperature for a period of two weeks.

Lemon and Lime

It is best to store lemon and lime in the refrigerator because they contain oil and the skin will get harder inside the refrigerator. Never place them in an air tight container for it will only encourage the growth of molds.

Grapes

Check for the clusters if they do not have any molds in them.  Never wash the grapes before storing them in the refrigerator because it will only hasten the rotting. Store grapes as soon as you get home in the refrigerator.

Mango

Store them on the counter until they ripened. If you will not eat your mangoes yet, you can store them in the refrigerator once they begin to ripen.

Oranges

It is good to store oranges in a basket at room temperature in order for the fruits to stay juicier.

Raspberries

As soon as you get home, wash the raspberries in a vinegar solution of 1 part vinegar to 3 parts water. Drain very well.  Place them in a bowl lined with a paper towel at the bottom. Replace the paper towel once they get damp.

Learn how to store fruit properly. Do not waste your hard-earned money by allowing fruits to just rot in the corner. If you will not eat them right away, follow the tips above on how to store fruits and avoid molds from developing. You have to store them properly and get the vitamins and minerals your body needs the natural way.
