Every year there is a new workout trend, and some stick around while others just continue to pass us by. ClassPass, the program where you can get access to a whole variety of gyms in your town without specifically belonging to any of them did some research on workout trends and what they thought would be the next big thing in 2016.

As of December 11, 2015 they had 594,036,380 minutes of exercise logged by their users so they have a pretty good amount of data to work with. According to this data, the top three workouts of 2015 were strength training, yoga, and cycling.

The apps unlimited members who used the program for at least six months tried an average of 16 different studios and 15 classes. Tuesdays were the most popular day of the week for people to book a class no matter where they were located.

On the east coast cycling was the most popular workout while pilates was the least popular. In the southeast barre was the most popular while rowing and martial arts were the least. In the midwest people went to strength training and yoga, but less of cycling and pilates.

On the west coast pilates and strength training were the most popular, while cycling was the least. In the southwest they went for pilates and yoga, but less barre and dance.

In Canada boxing and strength training were most popular, while barre and rowing were the least. In the UK boxing, pilates, and strength training were popular, while barre cycling, and rowing were not.

And in Australia they did a lot of yoga and pilates, but not as much barre and cycling.

ClassPass can be a really great way to check out a variety of group fitness classes if you are interested in finding one that works for you, or if you just like to switch things up on the regular to keep yourself from getting bored. The program costs $125 a month and gives you unlimited workouts with the participating gyms and specialty studios, but you can only go to each one three times.

As for 2016? ClassPass predicts that rowing is going to be the workout of the year.
