In 2016 The Hong Kong Consumer Council found that 11 out of 40 popular soy sauce products contain 4-methylimidazole. The World Health Organization lists this chemical as a known carcinogen. Since soy sauce is a condiment used almost daily in Chinese homes and in homes and restaurants around the world, the issue of toxic soy sauce should be regulated more strictly. The next product on this list is also very closely linked to the lack of soy regulations.
