Men’s Health features an article by Paul Kita, which details exactly how to make the shrimp bite from inside out. “Angry Shrimp Cocktail” spices up your average, plain shrimp. The featured recipe is from Fishtail NY owner and executive chef David Burke.

The Spicy Angry Shrimp Coat

Chef Burke dusts the shrimp with spicy flour before he sears them crisp. For the coating, the following are needed: Wondra flour, cayenne pepper powder, chili powder, and paprika. Mix the dry ingredients and toss the shrimp in. Set aside.

The Firepower Dip

You will need: chili sauce, horseradish, lemon zest and juice, and Tabasco. Mix all the ingredients. Season the mixture with salt and pepper. Refrigerate.

The Works

Use a skillet over medium-heat burner. Add a tablespoon of canola oil. Add the shrimp and sear at about 2 minutes, then turn the shrimp, searing the other side for another 2 minutes. Toss with butter, minced garlic, shallot, lemon zest and juice, and a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes. Add salt to taste. Serve with the dip.

This is a powerful version of the shrimp cocktail – juicy, spicy, and hot! The Angry Shrimp Cocktail wins every time!
