Almost everyone loves steak, except for the vegetarians. There are a lot good steak recipes and it is cooked in countless of ways. There are steaks cooked over charcoal, steaks that are cooked over a very hot slab of stone, or steaks that are cooked over a heavy pan.

It can be cooked medium rare, medium or well done. It all depends on personal preference. One steak recipe that is really good is called the peppered steak recipe. It is for those who love their steak a bit spicy and with some gravy sauce to go with it. It is not complicated to make, so even if you did not take any culinary courses, you can start cooking it for your wife, your girlfriend, or your friends.

A Good Steak Goes a Long Way

All you need to begin with is a good quality piece of steak that you can get from a reliable butcher. Always choose fresh. This peppered steak recipe calls for a New York cut strip steak, which is the other side of the T-bone on the opposite side of fillet mignon.

Steps in cooking:

1)      In order to make a perfectly seared steak, you need a heavy metal pan.

2)      It is best to pat dry the steak with a paper towel. This is done in order to avoid the steak from being steamed while searing it.

3)      Put some salt and pepper on a dish. Place the steak on it so the spices will stick to the meat. Do the same on the other side of the meat.

4)      When cooking peppered steak recipe or any steak for that matter, it is best to use a light olive oil instead of extra virgin olive oil. This is because the extra virgin olive oil gets burned easily. Add light olive oil onto the pan.

5)      Once the pan is smoky, it is ready for the steak. Place the meat and allow it to get seared for about two minutes. Then turn it around and cook for another two minutes.

6)      Remove from pan and set it aside.

7)      The next step in making peppered steak recipe is to cook the gravy. Remove the excess oil from the pan. Add some butter and cognac. Remove alcohol from the cognac by flaming it.

8)      Then add some beef stock for more flavor.

9)      Add some heavy cream for silkiness of the gravy.

10)   Add mustard for more spice.

11)   Stir continuously.

12)   Put back the steak in the pan and allow it to cook for few more minutes.

13)   Remove the steak from the pan, while allowing the sauce to thicken by reducing it. Once you have achieved the desired consistency of the gravy, turn off the fire.

You can now serve the delicious and easy to prepare peppered steak recipe. Place the meat on a plate and drizzle some gravy on top. You can place the excess gravy in a nice container, in case some prefer to have some more gravy on their steak. This is truly a delicious steak recipe that you can prepare with no fuss at all.
