It’s holiday season and it’s time to celebrate it with your family. Impress your family members by volunteering to cook the special food for dinner. It is time for the ladies to just sit back and relax and allow you to get busy in the kitchen.

Here is a prime rib recipe that you can prepare for your family this holiday season. It is not very difficult, so if you are newbie in the kitchen, cooking this recipe will not give you a hard time. The important thing is to always choose fresh ingredients. Go to a reputable butcher who can give you a good cut of prime rib.

Ingredients

  • Prime rib, size depending on the number of guests
  • Garlic, minced
  • Fresh thyme
  • Salt and pepper
  • Butter
  • Flour
  • Extra virgin olive oil

Procedure

Here is the step-by-step prime rib recipe:

1)      First, get a good quality of a prime rib from a reputable butcher. The best prime rib is marbled and aged. Do not worry so much about the fat (holiday season is not a good time to diet, anyway), as it will melt while cooking and the fat collected will be made into a gravy. So, if you have guests who are still concerned about the amount of fat they eat, then do not serve them gravy.

2)      There are two types of rub: dry rub and wet rub. The dry rub is made is ideal for barbecues – foods that are cooked in an open fire. A wet rub is ideal for food slowly cooked in the oven. In this case, you will be using a wet rub. In this prime rib recipe, whisk together freshly cracked black pepper, minced garlic, chopped thyme, extra virgin olive oil, and salt. Rub this mixture on the prime rib.

3)      Then it is time for you to cook it in the kitchen. Take note that there are two steps in the cooking process of prime rib. First, set the temperature to high and allow the prime rib to cook for about 25 minutes. This is to make the outer portion of the prime rib crusty. After 25 minutes, set the temperature to medium heat and cook the prime rib for about an hour. In this way, the insides will be soft while the outer portion is crusty.

4)      The next step in this prime rib recipe is to allow the rib to rest wrapped in tin foil for a few minutes. This is to allow the juices to settle down.

5)      Make the gravy. In the same pan where you cooked the prime rib, add some butter and then flour. Mix them fast, and then add some red wine to dissolve the debris on the pan. Allow to boil and thicken for a while. Remove from heat and serve it in a nice container.

6)      After allowing the prime rib to rest for about twenty minutes, you can now slice and serve it with some gravy. This prime rib recipe is best paired with baked potatoes and buttered vegetables.
