survival navigation

If you love the outdoor and you happen to encounter problems and you cannot find your way back home, the first thing to do is to bring out your map and your compass. If you do not have either one, then you can create a compass from the available materials in the woods.

Don’t Starve to Death

The worst thing that could happen to you is to get lost and have a shortage of food. You need food in order to survive, so first, you can rely on the plants around you for survival, but be very cautious because some plants are poisonous and can cause allergic reactions. Then, you can also hunt for animals, like a deer. Be cautious though and be sure to stay away from areas where there are signs of dangerous animals.

Tracking your Next Meal

So, hunt like a man and follow the survival skills below on tracking animals for your next meal:

Know your environment

It is important that you know your plants and be familiar with the types of plants animals eat. In this way, once you have established the plants that a particular animal eats, then you know what kind of animals are lurking within the vicinity.

Look for gaps

One of the survival skills that you need to know is to look for gaps within the vegetation. These gaps are the places that animals pass through, so once you have seen one, you are sure that you can hunt for food within the area.

Look for established trails

If you follow a trail, then it can be your lucky day to find animals at the end of the trail. Just follow the trail, especially during the wet months when animal trails last longer.

Learn and understand the chews

One of the survival skills that you need to learn is to study certain animal bites or chews on the leaves. Each animal has its own unique canine bite, so once you are familiar with the differences of chew marks, then you know whether you can hunt or not in the vicinity.

Know the scat

This is an indication of animal life in the area. The fresher the scat is, the nearer the animal is.

Look for tracks

One of the survival skills that you need to learn before venturing into the woods is the shape of the footprints of various animals. In this way, once you have seen tracks or footprints, you can establish right away the animals that are present in the area.

For instance, a deer has an upside down heart-shaped track. It is also important to be familiar with the tracks of the animals so you know if you are close to danger or not. There might be some dangerous animals within the vicinity, and instead of you hunting for food, the other way around will happen.

Those are some of the survival skills that you need to learn in order to survive in the woods. It is a dangerous area, so as much as possible, study the movements of the animals and their distinct characteristics even before you venture into the woods.
