You read that title one more time. Yes, take a day off from gaming. “What?! No! How can I defeat that monstrosity in Dark Souls 2? How can I finish the last dungeons in Persona 4 Golden? How will I be the best of the best in [insert most favorite game here]?” Hold it, gamer. I’m not asking you to do some kind of pilgrimage or something. I’m just asking you to take a nice day off. I’m sure you’ve read the articles here about fitting gaming into your life and doing other things besides gaming but probably you’ve never considered taking a day off. To put it more simply, you’ve probably not thought of a good way to do that, or don’t even know how to go about it. Well, with this guide here, you’ll be happy to take a day off from your gaming spree. Here’s how.

Save Your Game

This is the most obvious and yet the most safe thing to do. Seriously, when was the last time you saved your game? You don’t know how angry I got when I didn’t save some of my games. I take a day off from my games and, voila, I find out right then and there I didn’t save my game. So before you give your console or PC a nice rest, be sure to save your game. You’ll be glad you did.

Tell Your Family and Friends About Your Day Off

You might have some fellow gamers who expect you to be on the game on your chosen day off. In that case, inform them about the day off. Some might be pissed off, some might be glad and some… well, I can’t describe their feelings. What I can tell you though; inform them beforehand so they won’t be disappointed in knowing their best fellow gamer is not going to be with them on the day you’re taking the day off.

Plan Something On Your Day Off

So what’s to do on a day off? Well, plan it out. Read the article here that will teach you what you can do other than gaming, like learning a new language or instrument. If that doesn’t interest you, what will then? Think of things you always wanted to do but never got to do on your spare time. Maybe… buy a book? Hang out with somebody you haven’t seen for a long time? Do something awesome for your girlfriend? Draw something? I’m sure you have something in mind, so plan that out. Write it on paper if you must.

Plug Out All Your Consoles and PC

Here’s a good energy-saving tip: plug out your consoles and PC. It can save you a few bucks, and also, it’ll give you a reminder it’s going to be a day off when wake up.

Make Yourself a Bet

Here’s something that will definitely force you to enjoy the day off: make a bet. It’s up to you how you do this but say that if you find yourself opening the PC or console, you need to put in $1 in a jar every time you open the former. Heck, to make even harder: for every 30 minutes you play on a day off, you must put in $1 or even $2. You can even tell somebody about this and they’ll be the ones holding the cash for you. You want that? Make sure you’re not going to open those gaming equipment or else, you’re going to end up having $50 in that jar, treating everybody to pizza. Yeah, feel that burn in you.

Enjoy the Day Off

Most of all, enjoy the day off. This is after all the day when you’re not in some other world of elves, bloody wolves, pixelated landscapes or a virtual New York in LEGO Marvel Superheroes. You’re in THIS world, the world we live in.

So these are the things you can do to do on how to take a day off from gaming. So put down that controller or mouse / keyboard and get some sunshine gamer. The game can wait for you (just make sure you save all right? It’s not my fault if you end up at the start of the game when you’re done with the day off).
