Hair loss isn’t the most fun to deal with (or talk about), but if it’s happening to you already there are some things that you can do to try and keep it together as good as possible. Don’t shy away from the truth just because you don’t want to accept the facts, that will only make things worse in the long run.

Go the Over the Counter Route

Over the counter products like Rogaine contain the drug Minoxidil which has proven to both help prevent further hair loss and also grow some of the hair back. The only downside to using this product is that you will need to continue using it or else the hair that you have grown will fall out again. But, if you really don’t want to go bald and can commit to using the product daily, then it can be a pretty good option for the long term.

Get a Prescription

If you feel like you could use something a little stronger than the over the counter stuff, you can also head to the doctor and get a prescription like Finasteride. The prescription strength treatments for hair loss are taking orally as opposed to topically, and differ in their treatment in that they actually affect the hormones that cause balding and put a stop to it. These prescriptions may not however necessarily help you grow back the hair that you have already lost.

Work On Your Hairstyle

Changing your hairstyle obviously will not solve the problem completely, but there are certain hairstyles that are better than other for hiding balding or thinning hair. A general rule to follow is that your hair looks better when it is shorter if you are losing it, so think about trimming up what you’ve got if you can see the loss. It sounds sort of counter intuitive to cut off even more hair when you’re trying to hang onto what you’ve got, but long thinning hair just looks more stringy and calls attention to the areas that you don’t want people looking.

Another change you can make to your hairstyle is to grow more facial hair. If you can’t grow more on your head you can always just divert the attention on your face to your lower face. This gives you the opportunity to shape and trim that hair in the most flattering way possible so at least you’ll have that going for you as far as hair is involved.

Hair Transplants

If you are really serious about making a change, you might at some point consider actual hair transplants. This process can be expensive and requires maintenance every couple years, but it will not require daily pill popping or rubbing on cream. The process involves moving hair follicles from the back of your head to wherever your balding areas are, and it does require some recovery and can involve scarring.
