19. Olive Oatman

Olive Oatman was a woman from Illinois whose family members were murdered in 1851 when she was at the age of fourteen. Her family was murdered by a Native American Tribe possibly the Tolkepayas in Arizona. The tribe captured and enslaved her and her sister then sold them to the Mohave people. During this time her sister died of hunger and after five tragic years, Olive managed to return to the American Society. Her story has been an inspiration for speeches, novels, plays, movies and poetry.
