During Sony’s Pre-E3 Conference, they unveiled a game nobody (or anybody, if they believed into the rumors) expected: Bloodborne for PlayStation 4. Bloodborne is Demon’s Souls/Dark Souls spiritual successor. Directed by the man who loves to be cruel to gamers everywhere, Hidetaka Miyazaki, Bloodborne takes place in a Victorian-era-inspired town, where the main character (a slick, scary-looking, dual-wielding guy) must find some cure to a curse sweeping the country. The problem is, the town looks more like a ghost town, filled with creepy humans and monsters. Just imagine Tim Burton going hardcore in his ways of making horror-themed stories, and you’ll have Bloodborne. Here’s a leaked trailer for the game, being called Project Beast before its reveal in the conference.

Judging from the trailer above, we can see that Bloodborne borrows a lot from its predecessors, particularly the gameplay elements, such as the combat, the dodging and blocking and the fog doors. But it does look and feel like a new game or new IP because rather than fighting in kingdoms, you’re fighting in a town. And look at the enemies: they’re gruesome, blood-splattered and yet, they all look human (except of course, for the bosses. Ugh, gross). This is unlike the Souls series, where the enemies didn’t look this gross. The director’s sure got a lot on his mind. Must’ve been reading a lot of horror stories right?

But don’t take the video seriously just yet. Like its predecessors, this leaked video might not be the final product since it’s still early in production. It will be released in 2015, so whatever you’re seeing in the trailer may or may not be included in the final product. We don’t even know if we can create our own characters, just like the predecessors. We don’t even know how big the game’s going to be, we don’t know if it’ll be an open-world, etc. All we can do is wait and see what this game will feature.

My opinion? I’m very much excited for this. I’m currently playing Demon’s Souls, Bloodborne’s predecessor. I can tell you that if Demon’s Souls can kick my butt everytime I try to beat a boss (which I’m trying to do right now), then I’m sure Bloodborne will kick my butt harder.

Bloodborne will be released for PlayStation 4 in 2015.
