Steps in Learning the Sport
- Keep the bird with you for the first week, so they’ll become more adapt to your area.
- Teach the bird how to fly or hop on your gloved hand. Always wear a glove, because you may be injured from the sharp nails of the birds. Feed the bird with a lure while it is on your gloved hand.
- Toss the lure up high, allow the bird to fly and eat it, then return to your gloved hand.
- Once the bird has mastered going back to you after getting the lure, you can slowly introduce using rabbits for hunting.
The important thing in the game of falconry is that you train the bird of prey to go back to you as soon as they are finished with the hunting job. Remember to give the bird a reward if they performed well by giving him a piece of meat.
