Motivation: Expert Tips on Getting Pumped

If you’re lacking motivation or feeling stale, ConFITdent has the solution for you. We quizzed four phenomenal fitness experts on what inspires them and the best way to motivate yourself to crush your workouts and get the physique you want.

What Is Your Favorite Movie To Get Pumped Up?

Sean Hyson

Rocky I through IV, or Pumping Iron. As a child of the 80s, Stallone and Schwarzenegger represent fitness to me like no one else.

Adam Copeland

Easy, 300. Ripped, bearded men, a victorious underdog, and ruthless fighting? What else do you need?

Kyle Clarke

The Warrior. That movie just makes me want to conquer the world. The brotherly love, the training, and the determination to win is all so inspirational. And Tom Hardy is a bad ass.

Rob Sulaver

Mighty Ducks. Don’t judge me.

People Will Be Surprised To See ___________ On Your Workout Playlist?

Sean Hyson

“Hoe Down” by Aaron Copland. Certain classical pieces make me feel like I’m in a movie montage.

Adam Copeland

Nothing. I don’t like to listen to music when I workout. I enjoy developing the necessary intrinsic motivation to perform.

Kyle Clarke

Hahaha. Wow. I’m pretty unpredictable so let me think of one that’s not too embarrassing. Wiz Khalifa – When I’m Gone. I love his story and his commercial he did with this song motivates me. It’s a slow song so it doesn’t make too much sense to lift to, but it just reminds me to work hard for what I want and that nothing is impossible. To redeem myself, my favorite song to lift to is Rise Against – Savior.

Rob Sulaver

Showtunes. DON’T JUDGE ME!

Do You Find Any Certain Types Of Motivation To Be Temporary (Like Vanity) That Will Make People Complacent With Minimal Results?

Sean Hyson

Sure. If your only motivation to train is to look good or to be ready for one specific and short-lived event in your life, you’re not going to be in it for long. I think these are ok reasons to get started in fitness but you’ll probably find new reasons to keep it going once you develop the habit. At a certain point, a lot of people just don’t want their work to be in vain. Who wants to whip themselves into great shape and then watch as they fall back onto old, bad habits? Not losing what you’ve got and trying to build on it is part of what keeps me coming back.

Adam Copeland

It is playing with fire when main motivators are external. They can provide the spark to embark on a more valuable path, but eventually the motivation to continue needs to come from inside.

Kyle Clarke

I think all motivation is temporary, that’s why it’s important not to get complacent. I am not always motivated. And when I feel myself slipping, I set new goals or remind myself of ones yet accomplished. I continually challenge myself to ensure my motivation. And when I’m not motivated, I don’t get upset with myself. I allow myself the break and then when I feel I’m ready, I jump back in headfirst. I always say, “I’m a sprinter, not a long distance runner.”

Rob Sulaver

Actually, I think vanity is a very strong motivator. Infact, I’m convinced that some people only go to the gym because of all the mirrors.

How Do You Feel About Seasonal Goals Such As People Being Motivated Just To Get “Abs For Summer”?

Sean Hyson

Again, this is fine, but it probably—and should—move beyond that in short time.

Adam Copeland

There is nothing wrong with seasonal goals. Just as athletes manipulate their training and diet to peak for a competition, the same can be done to, for example, prepare during the winter and be ready for the summer.

Word of caution though, do not let yourself get too far away from optimal condition. You’ll thank me come April and thoughts of the beach creep into your head as you are pounding Easter dinner trying to bulk up.

Kyle Clarke

I don’t see anything wrong with it. New year’s resolution, swimsuit season, whatever it takes! I don’t think fluctuating large amounts of weight is healthy by any means, but kicking it up a notch for specific reasons is a great motivator and should be taken advantage of.

Rob Sulaver

Makes sense. I’m not mad at that. But being chubby is never in style.

The Best Way To Stay Motivated On The Journey To Reaching The Goal Is ___________.

Sean Hyson

Keep your goals in the front of your mind and realize that they’re not impossible. Take little steps daily and you’ll get there.

Adam Copeland

Constantly remind yourself why you took the first steps on the journey. Whatever motivated you to start should motivate you to finish.

Kyle Clarke

Continually set new goals and stay vigilant.

Rob Sulaver

Continuously watching Mighty Ducks, of course. ………..Quack. Quack. Quack.
