One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest

one flew over the cuckoo's nest
This one’s a very classic film, telling the story of Jack Nicholson’s character being sentenced in a mental institution because of raping a 15-year old girl. There, he makes a name for himself, being popular with the guys and giving them a nice. But the nurse who manages the place (Louis Fletcher) doesn’t like it so it’s a film that shows the rivalry between a patient and a nurse. (SPOILER ALERT): When the nurse gets so annoyed with everything McMurphy does (from escaping to the sea to making a party at the ward), she does what many nurses would do to silence the annoying patients: give them lobotomy. So she gives McMurphy lobotomy. you know why this is tragic? Because there’s this character known as Chief Bromden, a silent Native-American who most moviegoers wouldn’t regard much since he’s silent all the time. But somewhere in the film, McMurphy gives confidence to Chief, praising him to be “as big as a mountain”. When McMurphy prompted everybody to escape with him in the party section, Chief wasn’t able to do it. But after the “escape”, Chief wanted to escape. He finally sees McMurphy again and he was going to finally escape, but he finds out McMurphy has been lobotomized. This fractures his heart, and so to make an honor to McMurphy, he… suffocates McMurphy with a pillow to kill him with mercy and escapes the ward. Fun fact: this film was based on a novel of the same name and the main character is Chief Bromden! So if you ever watched the film, you can definitely think what Chief was thinking in those times. Still… it sucks. Will make you cry that somebody who makes you feel confident suddenly had to be taken away from this life.
