Gran Torino
No, it doesn’t star a car (though it is featured in this film). Starring Clint Eastwood, the story is about an old man (Eastwood) who’s got quite the hate for races in his area, particularly the Asians. But when new neighbors next door reach out to him, he begins to welcome them in his life and begins to change. But he has to deal with gangsters that want him dead. (SPOILER ALERT): Near the end of the film, when the old man finds out the Asian girl he made friends with gets bullied by some gangsters, he decides to confront them. He meets them in their place during nighttime. He tries to reason with them but it’s no use, they outgun him. As they approach him, the old man is about to get something from his pocket and this prompts one of the gangsters to shoot him down. But on close inspection, he actually was just pretending to have a gun, and he made a gesture. This would then have the police arrest the gangsters, therefore, the old man saved the Asian girl, her brother and the whole family. Wouldn’t that make you cry? When you see the rest of the film, it feels so good an old man, who is racist and traditional, was able to welcome a new change in his life. But to see him suddenly get killed just to save new people who reignited the light in him… it’s so tragic. But at least the old man gave the Asian guy his Gran Torino. Still… man.
